The El Paso County Board of County Commissioners is in need of community-minded citizens who want to help their neighbors in need.

Applications are now being accepted for two seats on the county Community Services Block Grant Advisory Board. The board is charged with helping to develop, plan, implement, and evaluate the Community Services Block Grant Program here in El Paso County.

This federally funded program is geared at eliminating poverty here. It does so by contracting with local agencies to provide assistance and opportunities to El Paso County citizens. According to the County Community Services Block Grant Program website, funds “may be available to provide qualifying persons with a one-time emergency or self-sufficiency assistance.”

The advisory board consists of nine board members who are appointed by the county commissioners. It meets quarterly (in March, June and September) on the second Friday of the month.

Terms are three years and members are limited to two, full, consecutive terms. Of the two new members, one must come from the public sector and one from the private.
