Police investigating early morning shooting in Southeast COS

Colorado Springs Police investigate a shooting early Wednesday, Aug. 12., at the Fairway View Apartments, 813 S. Circle Drive.

A man was shot and seriously wounded early Wednesday, Aug. 12, at the Fairway View Apartments, 813 S. Circle Drive. The shooting occurred shortly before 4 a.m. and marks the fourth such incident in the city in the past week.

“Upon arrival we located a male … with a gunshot wound. That male is still alive and has been transported to a local hospital. It is, however, a serious bodily injury,” said Lt. James Sokolik, Colorado Springs Police Department public information officer. “At this point in time it is still under investigation. We are asking the public’s assistance if you have any information about what occurred here or if you saw anything in this area.”

The north side of the apartment complex and the parking lot were taped off while officers conducted their investigation around 8 a.m.

A resident, who declined to provide his name, told the Express that an upstairs neighbor claimed to have heard shots early this morning, but ignored them due to the prevalence of fireworks in the neighborhood. Another of his neighbors down the hall reportedly told the resident they had a bullet hole in their apartment.

Lt. Sokolik could not say whether the shooting was a targeted attack.

This is the fourth shooting in Colorado Springs in the last week. On Aug., 8 CSPD responded to a report of shots fired near Constitution Avenue and Wynkoop Drive, and also investigated the death of 31-year-old Daniel Ritchie at an apartment complex near Woodmen Road and Rangewood Drive. On Aug. 9, 15-year-old Dakota Foraker was killed at the Greentree Village Apartments near North Academy Boulevard and North Carefree Circle.

On Aug. 7, CSPD responded to a report of shots fired at the Citadel Mall, but upon arrival determined that a suspect had only brandished a firearm and did not fire it.

Anyone with any information about Wednesday morning’s shooting is asked to contact the Colorado Springs Police Department at 719-444-7000.
