Volunteers tackle ‘Dump’ cleanup

A section of the southern end of the Sand Creek Trail known as “The Dump” got a bit of beautification in September, thanks to a cadre of volunteers, neighborhood residents and exercise enthusiasts.

A team coordinated by Community Works and partnering with the Community Barbershop, Salon, Hub & Pub, the Council of Neighbors and Organizations, the City of Colorado Springs and Bike Colorado Springs gathered Sept. 7 to tackle some of the trash along the trail. The work, which largely took place just north of Hancock Expressway and west of Academy Bouelvards, was a good start, organizer Lisa Marie Coleman wrote on a Facebook events page, “but there is still much to do.”

The cleanup is expected to take place monthly, “until our community is free of trash and debris.” For more information, visit facebook.com or check with the Southeast Express Community Calendar.
